FROM A SINGLE PUMP TO THREE HOOKLOADERS – HARSH SERVICE SHOWS THE WAY FOR ENICOR

“A few months ago, we needed a replacement pump as a matter of urgency, and only HARSH could deliver” says Enicor’s Transport Manager Andy Lound. “That incident really showed the value to us of having responsive, local aftersales support – so as we were soon to be replacing three of our hookloaders, we were only too happy to consider HARSH bodywork for those new chassis.”

From there, HARSH worked closely with Andy and Operations Manager George Dones to deliver the optimum specification for Enicor’s needs. Having decided on Volvo FMX chassis, the final build of the trucks was done at HARSH’s HQ just outside York.

Notably, the HARSH HH26 hookloader unit provides the key benefits of a low centre of gravity, high strength and powerful performance, all as part of a rugged and durable design built for years of reliable operation. As its title implies, HH26 has a 26 tonnes lift capacity whilst also being designed to handle full sized 50cu.m containers of up to 5790mm internal length.

Mounted on their high power 460hp three axle chassis, the new Enicor hookloaders carry a full range of incoming scrap metals, operating most of the time with drawbar trailers right up to the maximum legal weight of 44 tonnes gtw. The HH26’s fast – acting loading and unloading cycle helps improve overall vehicle productivity, whilst a simplified hand – held control system which can be used either in – cab or externally with a wander lead also makes life that bit easier for  Enicor’s drivers.

“These really are first class vehicles” says George Dones, adding “This time, we also decided to go for lift axle 6×2 chassis rather than the previous double drives, which not only saves significant weight but also improves manoeuvrability. Fuel consumption and tyre costs are reduced too. Similarly, the HARSH hookloaders the chassis carry are equally state of the art, especially in their speed and ease of operation. In our job, which can be particularly tough and arduous on trucks, HARSH and Volvo are the perfect fit – and especially so with HARSH offering local service almost on our doorstep.”

Founded only last year, Enicor acquired the long standing Lincolnshire – based metal recycling business of BW Riddle. At its main site at Bourne, Enicor is now making substantial and continuing investments to further develop productivity and operating safety. The three new vehicles will enable Enicor to expand its services to a full range of customers across the East Midlands, whether they be industrial, local authorities or public services. Metals of all types are brought into Enicor’s sites to be sorted and processed for recycling, either in the UK or abroad.
