Mercedes-Benz eArocs 400: Battery Electric construction truck available to order starting in April

The locally CO₂e‑free and low‑noise electric truck celebrated its world premiere last year at bauma in Munich, the world’s leading trade fair for construction and building‑materials machinery, mining equipment and construction vehicles.

Equipped with two LFP battery packs -  each offering 207 kWh[1] of installed capacity and housed in a battery tower behind the cab - the eArocs 400 demonstrates the strong potential of battery-electric vehicle solutions in the construction industry. Designed specifically for urban and near-road construction work, it enables full‑day operation without intermediate charging.

Customers in an initial 13 EU markets can order the model starting now. From the third quarter of 2026, the base vehicle will be produced at the Mercedes‑Benz plant in Wörth am Rhein, followed by integration of the electric drivetrain by Paul Group, headquartered in Vilshofen an der Donau.

Stina Fagerman, Head of Marketing, Sales and Services at Mercedes‑Benz Trucks, emphasizes: “With the new battery‑electric eArocs 400, we are enabling locally CO₂-free operations even in demanding construction environments. The vehicle combines the robustness required with an efficient electric drive system, covering key use cases in near‑road construction. This supports our customers in sustainably advancing and future‑proofing their fleets.”

The eArocs 400 is initially offered in two versions with technically permissible gross vehicle weights of 37 and 44 tonnes. It is available in an 8x4/4 axle configuration and four wheelbase options. The vehicle is suitable for applications such as dump bodies and concrete mixer bodies, and it can operate in low‑ and zero‑emission zones. Its low noise emissions also make it ideal for residential areas and nighttime construction sites.

Key components from the second‑generation Mercedes‑Benz eActros portfolio have been incorporated into the eArocs 400. These include the front box and the power take‑off (PTO), as well as the lithium‑iron‑phosphate (LFP) battery technology, which offers a long service life and particularly high usable capacity. Thanks to its significantly higher efficiency and additional energy‑saving potential — for example through recuperation and electrically powered body functions — the eArocs 400 is at least 50 percent more energy‑efficient than a comparable diesel truck. The vehicle operates with an 800‑volt onboard electrical architecture.

For many use cases, the eArocs 400 can complete a full workday without intermediate charging. In concrete mixer operation, it offers a range of up to 200 kilometers[2], and in dump truck operation up to 240 kilometers[3]. The truck supports charging at up to 400 kW via the standard CCS2 charging interface, available on both sides of the vehicle. The two battery packs need approximately 46 minutes to charge from 10 to 80 percent[4].

The electric truck features a powerful central drive with an integrated 3‑speed transmission, providing a continuous output of 380 kW and a peak output of 450 kW. Combined with the proven hypoid and planetary axles from the Arocs, the vehicle offers the required ground clearance and off‑road capability for construction‑site operations.

The eArocs 400’s tandem drive axles ensure sufficient traction both on and off the road. Proven components such as the robust vehicle frame and steel suspension on the front and rear axles provide the necessary durability for daily construction work. The M-cab features a low‑maintenance interior, additional storage options and an optional berth. It is fully galvanized and enables maximum body length while maintaining excellent manoeuvrability.

Even on uneven terrain, the Multimedia Cockpit Interactive 2 in the eArocs 400 can be operated confidently thanks to its improved ergonomic switch panel and voice control. Modern safety assistance systems[5], including Active Brake Assist 6 Plus, Active Sideguard Assist 2 and Front Guard Assist, support drivers in detecting hazards early, braking in time when necessary and maintaining situational awareness on the road and on construction sites.
