W J & J Green strengthens fleet compliance and maintenance management with AssetGo

30 June 20263 min read
Operating from Corskie Farm, east of Inverness, the Green family runs a large mixed arable and livestock enterprise alongside a substantial haulage operation.

The family firm operates 38 vehicles, the majority of which are articulated bulk tippers covering deliveries across the UK. The fleet also includes five eight-wheelers undertaking local quarry work. Vehicles are predominantly Scania models, alongside two Volvos and a recently added Iveco, with another due for delivery shortly. Around 45 drivers are employed, including nightshift drivers supporting local quarry tarring operations.

W J & J Green’s challenge

To support the management of its growing fleet and strengthen compliance procedures, the business introduced AssetGo in December 2025 to modernise its maintenance and daily vehicle checking processes.

According to Transport Manager Graham Archibald, the decision was influenced by his previous experience of using the platform.

“I had experienced AssetGo at my previous employment and found it was the right platform we needed to manage our maintenance and daily walkaround checks,” he says.

Prior to adopting AssetGo, W J & J Green relied on paper-based defect reporting, which often delayed visibility of vehicle issues until drivers returned and submitted paperwork.

“The business used to rely on paper defecting, which left you unaware of any issues until drivers returned on a weekend to hand in paperwork,” explains Graham. “Having live reporting allows us to monitor driver compliance along with receiving live feedback on current maintenance issues. Plus, being able to attach pictures gives the office a better understanding of what has failed and better decision making on rectification.”

Migration

The move to a digital system has also improved record-keeping and strengthened fleet compliance processes.

“We are still relatively new to the platform as a company, but I feel we have improved immensely on our data recording and the chasing up of information from maintenance providers,” says Graham.

Having successfully used AssetGo in a previous role, Graham was confident the software would deliver long-term benefits for W J & J Green.

“I feel it’s always good to improve and move forward with technology rather than sit with something that’s stuck in the past,” he says. “At my previous employment, our dedicated Maintenance Manager felt this platform could have taken us through to Earned Recognition.”

Graham also describes the implementation process as straightforward, with minimal support required following deployment.

AssetGo outcome

“The onboarding process was pretty much straightforward with no issues,” he recalls. “The initial setup was simply a case of uploading asset information, documents and key dates for the fleet. Once that was completed, it was plain sailing. To be honest, I haven’t really had to fall back on support since we came on board.”

Looking at the wider impact on the business, Graham believes AssetGo helps provide reassurance that drivers are following the correct procedures while supporting vehicle uptime and customer service.

“For me, it’s knowing that our drivers have the ability to prove at the side of the road that they have been compliant by following the procedures expected of them, with everything recorded on the app on their phone,” he says. “Good maintenance must always be a plus for any customer base reliant on haulage for their business to function, and prompt defect reporting helps to reduce downtime.”

By replacing paper-based processes with real-time digital reporting, W J & J Green says it is gaining greater visibility of fleet operations while strengthening compliance and maintenance management across its vehicle fleet.
