About the role

Job OverviewWe are seeking a skilled and dedicated HGV/Van Technician to join our maintenance team. The successful candidate will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining vehicles (HGVs/Vans), ensuring they operate safely and efficiently. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals with a strong background in mechanical, electrical, and fabrication work, who are committed to delivering high standards of customer service and vehicle reliability. The position involves working with a variety of equipment and tools, contributing to the smooth running of our fleet operations. Mercedes and ford experience is beneficial. Over time rate will be discussed on interview stage.ResponsibilitiesConduct comprehensive diagnostics and repairs on HGVs/Vans, including engine, transmission, braking systems, and electrical components.Perform fabrication and welding tasks as required to repair or modify vehicle parts.Use schematics and technical manuals to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues effectively.Carry out soldering and wiring work to ensure electrical systems are functioning correctly.Utilise hand tools, power tools, and specialised equipment for assembly, repair, and maintenance tasks.Maintain detailed records of repairs, inspections, and maintenance activities in accordance with company procedures.Assist with the repair and servicing of auxiliary equipment such as excavators and forklifts when necessary.Ensure all work complies with health and safety regulations, including heavy lifting protocols.Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with clients regarding vehicle status and repairs.RequirementsProven experience in vehicle or equipment repair with a focus on heavy goods vehicles (HGVs/Vans).Strong mechanical knowledge combined with electrical experience is essential.Proficiency in reading schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.Skilled in fabrication, welding, soldering, and assembly processes.Experience using hand tools, power tools, and specialised equipment for maintenance tasks.Ability to perform heavy lifting safely and efficiently within a workshop environment.Knowledge of operating equipment such as excavators and forklifts is advantageous.Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail.Good communication skills to liaise effectively with team members and clients.Relevant qualifications or certifications in vehicle maintenance or engineering are preferred but not mandatory.
